Garden design services

As a garden designer based in Hurstpierpoint, I create nature friendly and biodiverse gardens that support people and place. This page shares how I work, what’s included, and the kinds of projects I take on. My approach is intentional and ecology‑led, bringing clarity and grounded direction throughout the process.
I work across Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks, Ditchling, and the wider Sussex area.

What’s included

Each project is shaped around the site, the people who use it, and the ecological opportunities already present.
Core elements would usually include:

  • Site assessment

  • Concept design and layout planning

  • Planting design (with habitat‑supporting species)

  • Seasonal structure and textural planting

  • Guidance through implementation and project decisions

  • Ongoing support as the garden establishes

How the process works

1. Initial conversation

A gentle, exploratory conversation to understand your site, needs and direction. This helps us establish clarity and scope before any design work begins.

2. Design development

Concepts, planting ideas and ecological opportunities are shaped into a clear, intentional design. This stage brings structure, rhythm and coherence to the garden.

3. Implementation & support

I offer steady, human‑centred support as your garden is built or planted, helping you navigate decisions with confidence and grounded direction. Projects benefit from my background in organisational change and project leadership, ensuring calm, structured delivery from concept to completion.

Ways of working together

There are several ways that we can start working together, from early advisory support to full design. Each one meets you where you are in the process.

Garden clarity session

A 90‑minute on‑site session to understand your space, explore possibilities, and give you grounded next steps, followed by a written summary you can refer back to.

Seasonal garden review

A walkthrough of your garden with practical, actionable recommendations to help you care for the space through the year and make confident decisions season by season.

Mini concept sketch

A simple, focused design sketch for small spaces, giving you a clear layout idea and a sense of how the space could evolve.

Garden advisory

A light‑touch, advisory tier for people who need grounding, ecological guidance or help making sense of their garden. This is a reflective, supportive space to explore possibilities before committing to design work.

Typical support includes assessment, wildlife friendly planting or layout advice, and problem‑solving for specific areas.

Concept & planting design

A creative, mid‑level tier for shaping the structure, planting and ecological opportunities of your garden. This includes concept layout, planting design and a clear, intentional direction you can implement yourself.

Ideal for smaller gardens, or for people who enjoy being hands‑on with the build.

Full garden design & project support

A deeper, steady partnership that blends ecological design with grounded project leadership. This includes detailed planting plans, sourcing guidance, contractor support and decision‑making help throughout implementation.

Best for larger or more complex gardens, or for people who want clarity and confidence at every stage.

Who this is for?

Garden design is for anyone who wants a space that feels alive, biodiverse and deeply connected to place. It suits those seeking clarity, ecological thinking and a calm, intentional approach to shaping their outdoor environment.

How to begin

Every project starts with a conversation. I’m happy to explore what you need, the scale of your garden, and the kind of support that feels right for you.
